Haven 1.5
Sand aura. Reminiscence of a movement, a trace in space that lived for a fraction of a second. Energy in motion, sand throwing and magic making.
About this picture
Sand throwing has been part of my explorations when creating dance photography for a few years now. The process is very different from the long silent dances I perform and is complementary to it in its essence. The sand becomes an extension of my body and movement for an instant. Another way to connect to the elements and environment I’m in. Another tool to explore that adds subtle complexities to the piece that is being created.
To me jumping is about creating short moments of freedom. It’s about channeling and expressing inner-power in an instant. This picture is very special to me, as the shape created with the sand in that moment is something I could never have imagined and could never replicate.
About the Haven collection
As a dance performer, my body is my primary medium of expression. It is also my refuge. Connecting with the world around me & to places within myself is what my journey is about. It’s a tale about nature, patience, magic seeking & presence.
And as an artist, one of my main purposes is to touch, connect with and inspire other human beings.
For many years I made my body a vessel for other creators, mainly choreographers. I was trying to find my voice and my creative output in someone else’s piece, trying to find my way in someone else’s universe. As much as I enjoyed these experiences, I discovered through my years of collaboration with visual artist Eric Paré that I could also want to be the leader of my own artistic expression. Dance photography has been part of our light painting journey since the beginning, in 2014.
