Haven 1.6

Between dream & reality, a place where the boundary between earth & sky doesn’t exist.

About this picture

I wanted to include a yoga picture in this series as this practice has been part of my journey for many years. It’s a way to connect to my body and assess where my attention is at a given moment. It helps me to dive directly into my current experience and tune in to the environment in order to find my balance. Practicing adaptation to the different elements present on location is a wonderful way to mentally and physically prepare myself to be more centered and connected for the performance I’ll be doing later during the night.  In Bolivia, where this piece was created, my senses are often being quite bombarded. The cold wind pushing against me and whistling in my ears, the spiky salt ground under my feet, the cool water, the effect of the altitude on my breath and endurance... All those challenges are integrated into my practice and contribute to the development of my attention and skills.

About the Haven collection

As a dance performer, my body is my primary medium of expression. It is also my refuge. Connecting with the world around me & to places within myself is what my journey is about. It’s a tale about nature, patience, magic seeking & presence.

And as an artist, one of my main purposes is to touch, connect with and inspire other human beings.

For many years I made my body a vessel for other creators, mainly choreographers. I was trying to find my voice and my creative output in someone else’s piece, trying to find my way in someone else’s universe. As much as I enjoyed these experiences, I discovered through my years of collaboration with visual artist Eric Paré that I could also want to be the leader of my own artistic expression. Dance photography has been part of our light painting journey since the beginning, in 2014.
