Haven 1.1

The ocean has that power & mystery that can only awaken respect, fascination & admiration. It evokes adventure, the unknown and life itself.

Waves & ocean remind me of how small I am, how tiny and helpless I am when put against its power. It gives a clear sense of perspective. And yet I can somehow harness and feel its power within me. A reverence of the individual towards the greatness of nature & a deep connection to it.

About this picture

We’ve been shooting near the ocean since the beginning of our collaborative photographic journey. Seeking landscapes where we could see the horizon and get a sense of vastness, oceans and flat beaches were indeed places where we would find inspiration. The cyclic movement of the waves creates the music and becomes a source of energy to interact with. This picture was created during a slow dance performance as the sun was setting.

About the Haven collection

As a dance performer, my body is my primary medium of expression. It is also my refuge. Connecting with the world around me & to places within myself is what my journey is about. It’s a tale about nature, patience, magic seeking & presence.

And as an artist, one of my main purposes is to touch, connect with and inspire other human beings.

For many years I made my body a vessel for other creators, mainly choreographers. I was trying to find my voice and my creative output in someone else’s piece, trying to find my way in someone else’s universe. As much as I enjoyed these experiences, I discovered through my years of collaboration with visual artist Eric Paré that I could also want to be the leader of my own artistic expression. Dance photography has been part of our light painting journey since the beginning, in 2014.
